New Sportsground Coming to Sophia Waters, Chisholm!

Maitland Council has announced that construction will soon begin on a brand-new sportsground at Suncroft Street, Sophia Waters, Chisholm, delivering much-needed sporting facilities for our growing community.

Following extensive community consultation, the new sportsground has been designed to cater to a range of sports and recreational activities. The project will include:

• Two mixed sports fields
• A cricket wicket
• An amenities building with accessible changerooms and toilets
• Irrigation and sports floodlighting for extended play hours
• Parking for over 100 vehicles, including accessible spaces

The project reflects feedback gathered during community consultation for the Thornton North Urban Release Area, where the need for local sporting facilities was highlighted as a key priority.

What’s Next?
Maitland Council will commence construction in April 2025, with completion expected by mid-late 2026. Once complete, this new facility will provide a fantastic space for local sports teams, families, and community members to stay active and engaged.
